This is a quick story about how I found the 1954 Seagave Fire Engine for this restoration project.
In April 2022, I was traveling for work in the Allentown area of Pennsylvania. Having searched my local area of Florida for a Seagrave truck to restore, I used my free time to search the Philly area for antique engines for sale. I happened upon a Facebook post about a Seagrave for sale in Townsend, Massachusetts. Given the timing of my flights, I only had one chance to make a mini road trip to see the truck.
In Townsend, I met the owner, a retired fire fighter, and got a chance to examine the truck. We discussed the history of the truck, his original hopes for a restoration, and how the truck deserved better than becoming a lawn ornament.
While I didn't purchase the truck straightway, we kept in touch and settled upon a price. My big ask was that he continued to store the truck on his property, until I could arrange for transportation and storage in Florida.
And so it began. After years of wanting, I finally owned a fire truck. But now the real work began...
